Logans Seizure Recovery

Logan takes about 3 weeks to return to his normal baseline. If seizures were excessive, he will not talk much during the seizure pattern and about 5 days after. Logan becomes extremely agitated towards the end of the seizure pattern and about 2 weeks after. He is more aggressive with the cussing and poking people. Logan also has difficulty with smackinging others, touching excessively, and not being aware of how hard he is doing this. It comes across as intentionally however, it is not. This typically lasts about 2 weeks after seizures. Logan is in a heightened state of sensitivity which makes it difficult to take him out in public or even around more than 2 people. He deals with a lot of confusion which makes it difficult for him to respond to questions or commands. This is because the nervous system is in shock and takes a while to reregulate. This lasts about 3-4 weeks ( thats doing therapy to help with the nervous system).

During the recovery process, following directions is not something Logan can do well because the body and brain are still processing the trauma from the seizures. There is a lot of swelling that goes on in the brain so the connections take a bit to reestablish. This takes roughly 3 weeks.
Most of the time he ignores us however, it's not on purpose. This happens because he literally cannot make the connection in his brain. So often this is confused with manipulative/defiant behaviors.
Logan deals with headaches and body aches most of the time. The jaw is really painful for a about a month.
Logan needs to be reminded to eat and drink water for about a week and a half after the seizures. We need to remind him to brush his teeth and wash all parts of his body.
Writing is difficult for about 2 weeks. Anything that takes concentration is out for about 2 weeks.
Logan is definitely not himself during or 3 weeks after seizures. There is a lot of misconception and misdiagnosis on this topic. I have experienced comments from others that have mistaken these as bad behaviors and that is just not so. The brain is dumping continuous amounts of chemicals and is in a trauma response mode. The nervous system in also in a traumatic shock response. This is literally a physical issue. The person going through the seizures has so many imbalances and disconnects in the body going on that they are not able to respond in a regular manner. Most of the time they are in fight, flight or freeze mode. For Logan, he experiences confusion and is not understanding what is being said (after the seizures end)so he immediately responds in "fight" mode which is a defense mechanism. He cannot organize, rationalize, conceptualize or process information around or coming in. He is definitely hyper sensitive during these times. I bet people that are experiencing intense seizures on a regular basis are never really able to experience a recovery process which explains the behaviors, add medications with increased side effects in puberty and one has a diabolical situation.
